    Scientific Name: Andropogon gerardii
    Cultivars:
    Growth Habit:Grows to 4-6 feet tall. Long, glabrous, flat, rather firm leaves. Stems purplish at base and covered with fine hairs. Seedheads produce 2-3 distinct racemes that resemble a turkey foot.
    Life Cycle:Perennial
    Origin:Native to Florida
    Production Season:Warm season (April to August). Seed heads appear in September.
    Nutritive Value:Among native grasses it is preferred by cattle.

  • Typically found in north Florida flatwood and upland hardwood hammocks.
