    Growth Habit:Sod type. 3-6 feet tall when flowering, Long leaf blades, very hard and pointy, with a strong midrib. Inflorescence a "feather like" raceme: very long, thin, with a purplish color at the base of the sheath. Droops in maturity. Large scaly rhizomes.
    Life Cycle:Perennial
    Origin:Native to Florida
    Production Season:Warm season (March to July). Seeding from September to October.
    Nutritive Value:Good quality range forage.
    Use:Grazing

  • Typically found in flatwood sites in North and South Florida, in Cabbage Palm flatwoods and in Longleaf Pine-Turkey Oak Hills, associated with Pines and Palmetto.
  • Best produced under 20-35% canopy cover of pine forest.
