    Scientific Name: Panicum anceps subsp. rhizomatum
    Cultivars:
    Growth Habit:Forms clumps and sod. Short, scaly, white rhizomes. 2-4 feet tall; blades flat, dense hair tufts in collar region. Plant has a soft hairy aspect.
    Life Cycle:Perennial
    Origin:Florida Native
    Production Season:Warm season. Most growth occurs February to August. Seeds formed September to October.
    Nutritive Value:Considered to have good forage quality, especially late spring-summer.

  • Occurs throughout Florida, mainly on Flatwood sites and Longleaf Pine-Turkey Oak Hills.
  • Provides only fair roughage in winter.
  • Benefits greatly from deferred grazing in summer months.
