    Growth Habit:Bunchgrass, 3-6 feet tall (when flowering). Prominent ligule. Long awns, golden-brown panicle, seed appears on one side.

    Origin:Native to Florida
    Production Season:Major growth April-July, with seed heads appearing in September.
    Nutritive Value:Very palatable.
    Use:Grazing

    Notes

  • State grass of Florida. Present in Cabbage Palm flatwood sites, Longleaf Pine-Turkey Oak Hills and in Upland Hardwood Hammocks.
  • Deferred grazing recommended during months of major growth.
  • Good nesting and fair- good foraging habitat for quail.
