    Management

    Planting Date:November 15-December 15
    Planting Depth:1-2 inches
    Seeding Rate:1 to 2 bu/acre
    Seed Cost:$0.28/lb; $15.68 to 31.36/acre
Fertilization:For fertilization info click this link
    Production:3000 to 4000 lb/acre of grain

    Notes

  • Limited acreage planted since there is no commercial price posted for the grain. Therefore, very limited acreage planted in the southeast US.
  • The flour obtained from the grain has no gluten and as a result, the bread derived will not rise unless external sources of gluten are added.
  • Susceptible to leafspot 'Bipolaris' (formerly Helminthosporium spp.) causing leaf lesions associated to heavy N fertilization, wet, windy, and warm weather 60 to 77°F.
  • Increasing use in dairies.
