Goals
- Discover, through scientific inquiry, information that will lead to 1) enhanced, efficient, and environmentally-sound production systems for agronomic field and forage crops, and 2) effective management strategies for pest plant species in aquatic, natural and cropped ecosystems.
- Prepare undergraduate students for professional careers or graduate education in the areas of crop science and technology, crop production and management, agronomic enterprise management, and environmental stewardship.
- Provide graduate educational experiences that prepare students with the needed knowledge and skills to meet the scientific challenges and opportunities in genetics; crop physiology and ecology; crop management and nutrition; and weed science.
- Serve the public through timely education of producers, consumers, resource managers and agribusiness personnel, using relevant, accurate and unbiased research-based information.
- Support the UF/IFAS in accomplishing its mission and goals.
The teaching, research and extension programs of the Agronomy Department encompass a wide array of agronomic commodities and pest plant species of importance or concern to the citizens of Florida.
