Research Focus

Research focuses on three areas of small grain improvement:

  • Variety development program with wheat, oats, rye, and triticale to introduce new varieties with higher grain yield, improved disease and insect resistant, and better quality factors for industry. These new varieties will better fit into multiple cropping, minimum tillage systems of crop production and reduce the risks of growing these crops in these systems.
  • The variety development program also includes developing new varieties of the small grains that are well suited for forage production with increased forage yield, more winterhardiness, and faster regrowth after grazing or harvesting.
  • Also research is conducted on crop production factors so that the new varieties with planting dates, fertility rates, fungicides, insecticides, etc.
