Research Focus

Biology and management of invasive weeds, with emphasis on aquatic weeds; aquatic plant ecology and physiology. Screening aquatic herbicides for activity against hydrilla, water hyacinths, and other invasive plants, selectivity and residues. Development and evaluation of environmentally responsible methods of chemical, biological and mechanical control of invasive species. Herbicide resistance. Biology and control of exotic golden apple snail, including evaluation of molluscicides for adult snail control and toxicity of compounds to exotic snail egg masses.

Responsibilities of Acting Center Director

Service to Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants as Acting Center Director since spring of 2004. Provide leadership to multi-disciplinary center for UF/IFAS faculty involved in invasive plant research, including basic research and applied management programs for invasive plants. Manage budgets, personnel and facilities at the CAIP, an off campus office and research facility with 20± employees, as well as promote the research, extension and teaching programs of affiliated faculty on campus and at research centers in Florida.
