Research Focus

Dr. MacDonald has a 65% research and 35% teaching responsibility in the Agronomy Department at the University of Florida. He teaches several classes and is currently responsible for overseeing the plant science field-teaching laboratory on campus, which includes a 300+ weed nursery.

Current research areas include:

  • cogongrass biology, ecology and management
  •  torpedograss biology, ecology and management
  • biology, physiology and biochemical aspects of fluridone tolerant hydrilla
  • peanut and cotton weed management
  • sustainable peanut production technology in Guyana, South America
  • herbicide physiology, mode of action and resistance mechanisms
  • invasive plant management
