Department Requirements & University Requirements


What does our department require?

  • One Page Essay stating your research interests and
    background. Specify your interest in one of the four specialty
    areas:

    • Genetics
    • Management & Nutrition
    • Physiology & Ecology
    • Weed Science
  • GRE test score. (The GRE score expire 5 years and the TOEFL score expire 2 years, from the test date.)
  • Transcript Copies from previously attended colleges or universities.
  • Three Letters of Recommendation from scientists in the field of research you desire to pursue. Individuals you select should be capable of validating your ability to pursue graduate studies.
  • TOEFL test score for applicants born in countries outside the U.S. (See the UF Graduate School website for exceptions.)
  • UF Application you submitted to UF Office of Admissions.

Since admission is a collaborative effort between multiple departments, the UF Office of Admissions gives us access to your information within hours of your application submission. The process is streamlined so that when you complete the application, you may submit your essay, report your GRE score, list names and email addresses of recommenders, and indicate distribution of your application to three departments at UF.

What is the process for a Graduate Assistantships?

Our department works under the assumption that you are pursuing a Graduate Assistantship opportunity. There is not a separate form or application to complete, but all application materials listed above must be in our department by January 1.

What is the process after the application is submitted?

Our department checks at least once a week for new applicants. You will be contacted by our staff to inform you if items are missing from your application packet. Once we possess all of the documents listed above, our Evaluation Committee reviews your qualifications and makes a recommendation. Then we contact you!

When does the Agronomy Department need application materials?

All Items listed above need to be in our office by:

  • January 1 for Fall Admission and consideration of a Graduate Assistantship
  • September 1 for Spring Admission
  • January 1 for Summer Admission

Please keep in mind that Agroecology has a separate set of deadlines.

Master of Science (Non-Thesis) DE Agroecology Application Deadlines:

University Requirements

The University of Florida and the Agronomy Department require a minimum combined score of 1000 if taken before Aug 1. 2011 or 300 if taken after Aug 1, 2011, on the verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination(GRE), a minimum score of 320 is required on the Verbal portion of the GRE before Aug 1, 2011 or 140 if after Aug 1, 2011, and an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 during the last two years of study at an accredited or otherwise recognized institution of higher learning. For students whose native language is not English, a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) is required on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Contact the Educational Testing Service (Box 955-R, Princeton, NJ 08541) for information on the GRE and TOEFL. Application for admission documents should be submitted by January 1 for consideration of a Graduate Assistantship for the following Fall or Spring term.   All forms listed below as well as the online applications may be found at: http://gradschool.rgp.ufl.edu/.
