UF Hemp Pilot Project Research
The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Hemp Pilot Project aims to support the future viability and sustainability of the hemp industry in Florida and beyond through assessment of the crop, cropping and production systems, and their ecological and economic impacts. The UF/IFAS Hemp Pilot Project was approved by the Board of Trustees at the University March of 2018 and was permitted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services-Division of Plant Industry (FDACS-DPI) in early 2019 for cultivation and research efforts. Currently UF/IFAS has over 40 permitted sites and facilities on university-owned properties and also with qualified project partners (QPPs) across the state.
The UF/IFAS Hemp Pilot Project also possesses a DEA Schedule 1 registration for research with low THC cannabis (hemp) and that registration along with FDACS-DPI permitting is managed by the Office of the Dean for Research in UF/IFAS. The lead oversight manager for the UF/IFAS Hemp Pilot Project in the Research Office can provide guidance and assistance to IFAS and other University of Florida faculty and staff desiring to acquire an FDACS-DPI hemp research permit.
